Completion of a Successful Chaaturmaas

Dear friends
Chaaturmaas is a period of four months Shraavan, Bhaadrpad, Ashwin and Kartik when Sannyasis of every sect in India stop their journeys and stay at a place to teach and preach whatever they have to. Sanatani Hindu saints have given up this tradition a long time ago. Why? They may tell well.

But Sadhus and Sadhvies of Jain sect strictly follow this tradition. Really, an admirable act. They stay at a Sathaanak already decided by them and the members of Jaina society and teach and preach the teachings of Jain Dharama. Ahimsa (Non-violence) of any kind is the theme of their teachings. Self realisation is the goal of these Sadhus and Sadhvies and they do every effort to achieve it. They study, contemplate, meditate and try to act accordingly.

In December 2012 I came in contact with a group of Jain Sadhvies led by Shri Meena Ji Maharaj. At that time it was a group of six and a girl, who was to be initiated yet, was also with them. During their stay of five days at Barnala, a great sense of  shradhha developed in my heart for Meena Ji Maharaj.  The way Mehak Ji Maharaj delivered discourses was marvellous and the serving attitude of  Mukta Ji Maharaj towards the members of her group is appreciable.

Jain Sadhus and Sadhvies travel bare-foot, whatever be the season. Whatever kind of road it is. And howsoever long is their journey. They travel throughout the country.

I visited the group when they were in Maler-Kotla, Mandi Ahmedgarh and Ropar. After a long journey through Himachal also they stayed at Banoor near Chandigarh for Chaaturmaas.

During this Chaaturmaas Mehak Ji Maharaj completed her duty of daily discourses very well. She taught how to meditate also to the daily comers. She is observing Varshi-Tap of Silence these days. She speaks just for an hour when she is there to deliver her discourse.

Gurudev Meena Ji Maharaj sings so sweet that she is famous with the name of Kokil-Kanthi among Jain society.

I salute this very very much disciplined group of  Shri Menna Ji Maharaj and seek their Blessings.

Vandanaa! Maharaj Ji.
